The Sotto brief was met with delight and zeal. We couldn’t wait to get started on this famed Italian eatery in the heart of Edinburgh’s stylish Stockbridge area.
Natural balance was key to revitalising the lavish and existing Ping On restaurant. Modern design was at the heart of this carefully crafted environment, which would in turn offer a refined, welcoming atmosphere.
In collaboration with fit-out specialists Splntr, we breathed new life into a much-loved Stockbridge landmark, stripping it back to its bones and reimagining it as Sotto — an Italian Enoteca and Trattoria rooted in warmth and craft. Every detail was carefully considered, with a refined material palette of white marble, brass, red oak, textured plaster, cork, leather, and fluted timber and glass. Spanning two floors and a series of intimate rooms, the transformation was as intricate as it was extensive, combining structural reconfiguration with beautifully executed workshop fabrication.
Sotto’s façade now makes a striking first impression on the Stockbridge landscape.
Flanking the entrance are two bespoke fluted metal-framed lanterns, offering an inviting glow; and a sleek lightbox to match, which subtly showcases the Sotto name.
The restaurant’s interior was accentuated by bespoke lighting and elegant décor. A third lantern was set at the base of the stairs, guiding guests towards the wine cellar, Cantina, where you can explore and uncover specially curated wines, all within a chic setting.
