Banchory, Scotland
Set within the landscape of Royal Deeside, the restaurant draws its character from its riverside setting — the changing light on the water, the surrounding woodland and the quiet rhythm of a landscape that has shaped generations of visitors. Rather than compete with its surroundings, the design seeks to frame them, allowing the river and the seasons to become part of the dining experience.
The interior unfolds through a series of calm, generous spaces where natural light, carefully balanced proportions and a restrained material palette create a sense of quiet confidence. Every element has been considered for its honesty, craftsmanship and longevity, resulting in an environment that feels both refined and deeply connected to its surroundings.
Textures are layered rather than embellished. Timbers, natural stone, soft linens and handcrafted details introduce warmth and authenticity, while bespoke furniture and carefully curated lighting establish an atmosphere that evolves from bright, welcoming days to intimate evenings beside the river.
Throughout the project, Scarinish sought to create more than a restaurant. Falls is a place where architecture, interior design and landscape exist in harmony; where guests are encouraged to linger, reconnect and experience Royal Deeside through every carefully considered detail.
The result is an understated destination that celebrates contemporary Scottish hospitality while remaining firmly rooted in its remarkable setting.
