Girvan, Ayrshire
William Grant & Sons asked Scarinish to design an exclusive, new brand home for the world-famous Hendrick’s Gin – a project that would enrich the Gin Palace in Girvan, Ayrshire. From the start, we set out to lovingly create a series of brand spaces within the majestic palace walls on the South Ayrshire coast.
To complement the eclectic, quirky Victorian palace, we sought hand-selected furniture and Victorian dressing elements, acquired from various antique auctions from around the world. Trimmings which formed lavish interiors, all with a hint of eccentric grandeur.
Within the palace’s walled garden, an extravagant Victorian style Glasshouse was created – the focal point of the Gin Palace, where various roof styles and details were fashioned. We even set out to find appropriate finely bespoke, one-of-a-kind furnishings.
Master Distiller, Lesley Gracie, revels in her very own refurbished lab here too – a sanctuary to invent new gin expressions. The lab is peculiar in the sense that the room’s shape and style wouldn’t exist without the ‘operating theatre light’ which was pre-bought from the Kane Hospital in Pennsylvania. The hospital light, being such a key feature, dictated the shape and design of the room. The lab was quite literally built around it.
From the safari-styled Glasshouse to the Bar Lounge, with its matchless jade-green marble fireplace – the Hendrick’s Gin Palace is a real treat for the senses, whether you’re a gin-lover or not.
On completion, we were delighted to have won the Experiential Design, Interior Design Drum Design Award 2019 for our enjoyable, excitingly unusual endeavour.
